I assume this is a button... I dug it this morning from the same site that gave up an 1822 large cent last week. I thought I had another large cent at first, but no such luck. Any thoughts on the age of this thing?

hey z118 that looks like an old colonial button sometimes called a dandy or cloak or even frock buttons is it designed on the front ? your G.W. buttons are that size , these type of buttons were very popular from the late 1700's to about 1800 . the area is looking like an old colonial site is nearby or dirt brought in was from an ols site .nice find.

It's a button. Looks about as big as the one I found 2.5 years ago in Ohio.

So Okie, are you saying my button is at least 2.5 years old?

I think it is a large, flat button (not a dandy). Most likely early 1800's. Most dandies are thinner metal, had designs, and tend to be even larger than yours. I could be wrong tho. I have only dug a handful!

Here is a typical &quot:grin:andy:
