I'm still doing a dance after today's find ! I have been trying to hunt some old areas of San Jose while I have been off work the past month . Today I hunted a place that 8-10 years ago I found a Seated half & quarter dating from the 1850's ! I have only been back once and only found a few wheats . Today I put on my 12 inch coil and started digging any iffy silver targets . After about an hour or so I had a very iffy target . It was all over the place , +50 - +80 . This is the kind of target I had been digging all morning with out any luck . This time was different ! The target was at 8 inches and when I got down to it the VDI was at +86 ! I'm thinking silver quarter ! Well it was not silver . When I saw the coin in the hole I had no clue what it was till I picked it up and saw ONE CENT big on it ! My first ever large cent :omg: !!! It's a 1848 and in good condition I would say . I still can't believe it ! This is one from my wish list I thought I would never find . It's the happiest I have ever been to just dig a penny <: . I'll be working this place again with my new MXT PRO coming next week ! thumbsup01

:congrats: Nice going ! I still remember my first LG Cent so many years ago. It's the greatest feeling, huh . Not too bad of shape either. I'm sure it's tough finding them out West compared to us out here in New England.
Congrats again !

Congrats on the LC! I think I'd be heading back to that spot often with the track record of coins found there, good luck!

Wow, that's an awesome find, Glen! :wow:

That can't be a very common find in CA. It gives me hope that I might find one here in Illinois. I have only found two of them in my life, both in the mid 1980s.

Congrats on the terrific find! It's in nice shape too! happydance02

In Connecticut, a lot of large cents are detected but most do not look as good as yours.
Great condition for an exciting first.
Unbelievable isn't it?
We wait so long to find something yet it's hard to believe we are holding it in our hand when we finally detect it.
