yep....they will chime in....never saw an anchor with paris on the back. Looks like 1850s though. Are you near a civil war area? Maybe a southern/french connection? lol ....french connection.

Welcome to the forum from western MA. Someone will definately chime in about your button. Are you a coinshooter or relic hunter?

Welcome to the forum from southern Nevada.

I'm no expert on buttons, and the Paris on the back certainly is strange. A fouled anchor is the symbol of a US Navy Chief and is found on just about everything on their uniforms.

I suggest you post the pictures and question in our What Is It? forum. Many more folks will see it there, as opposed to this introduction forum.

hello Mali843 , welcome to American Detectorist :waving: , your button is an interesting one and obviously made in Paris , the fouled anchor with rope border is an older design . can you confirm the backmark , to me it looks like W P H Paris is that correct??

 There was a L.R. Paris around 1840 that was a button maker and or a dealer
Also it could be a Massachusetts Nautical School uniform button ? and the Navy had a one piece with border rope edging (24mm )
Both button look very much like yours but the backs don't match up ??
Maybe this will help?
Good Luck!
