Plucked a shield in town here from two inches deeep! Well that almost completes the nickel variety from metal detecting lol. I think the nickel is a 1882, but im not sure on that. JUst pretty barbaffled to see it come out of the ground! Am I missing any nickels? I have all modern nickels, war nickels and these shown in the picture.

great finds , i had never found a shield , before this year , i got 4 this year 2 in the same hole and 1 not far away from the 1st 2 , and 1 in another yard .... great coins

That's a great looking shield nickel! Congrats on that finds Dale! The shield nickel was minted from 1866-1883, and I rarely see nickels from the 1870's and 1880's found, they are almost always 1860's. Not sure why that is. A great find, congrats again! |:cheering:

Like Joe said, just not pictured, a war nickle and it looks like you've got the whole gamut! :grouphug:
There is the nickle variety of pennies , and 3 cent pieces.... but thats another post lol

I agree with Darren, most shield nickels that are found are from the 1860s, you don't see many from the 1880s at all. Yours looks to be in really nice shape for a shield nickel too!
