Found this on a old dirt cart or carriage road in the woods while trying out a new area. It rang up like a penny jumping between zinc and copper so I tought it was going to be an Indian Head cent. When I saw a big green patina disk I thought a large flat button at first until I was able to make out a rossette flower pattern. :thinkingabout: I can see some gilding under the patina...

Thanks in advance,

i'm thinking its a nice decorative button Thiltzy , although it doesn't look like it has an eyelette loop it could still be one . maybe it had a bone or wooden back that either rotted off or broke loose.

Any way to date this thing?

hey Thiltzy , i've seen quite a few around the 1770's to 80's and this looks about as fancy but its more flatter than most i've seen so i bet its a bit earlier than this. i'm sure it was heavily gold or silver gilted at one time .

I would consider it to be a bridle rosette.

I've found several. They would also have matching ones to adorn other horse stuff.

my 2 cents...
Nice find
