I have been asked to assist someone in identifying this object. It was found when the new owners of a house were moving rocks on their property. It's made of rock, weighs about 44 pounds, 12 inches in diameter and 5 and a half inches high. I think it's a fancy cat's water dish either carved by the previous owner or bought at a garden store but I was wondering if anyone else has seen something similiar or has thoughts about it.

Thank you.

Just an uneducated guess, but I suspect that you're correct about it being a modern piece, possibly a cat water bowl from Pier 1 Imports or a similar store.

Did you say it weighs 44 pounds?! At 12 inches across and only 5 1/2 inches high it must be a VERY dense material!

Kind of cool... I've never seen a bowl like that but I would assume it is a cat bowl, either bought somewhere or carved at home.

Yes. It is made of real rock and not a man made material.

Thank you everyone for your input. If nothing else, it confirms my initial thoughts about it.
