This is the view outside my front door right now:

No metal detecting today. :-\

So instead, I get to subject you to my narcissistic end-of-year report!

Like I mentioned in a previous thread, I don't think I will ever top this year as far as the number of bucket list items I've found, and the overall quantity of items I've recovered.

In 2012 I dug the following Firsts:
First Pre-1870 Indian Head: 1864
First 1943 Steel Wheat Cent
First Two-Cent Piece: 1864
First Shield Nickel: 1868
First 1883 No Cents V Nickel
First Seated Liberty Dime: 1877
First Seated Liberty Quarter: 1876-S
First Civil War Item: General Service Button

There are still several items on my bucket list, but I don't know if I will ever find this many firsts in one year again.

Here is a photo recap of my finds for 2012:

What an awsome year for you Tony! You really killed it on the Indians and silver and 6 seated is outstanding. I rarely hunt parks so I get very few silvers with the exception of the paper thin ones I pull out of the ocean. In fact, I found more Large cents and Colonial coppers than I did silver coins this year I guess it all depends on what locations one hunts.

Those are some very nice 1st's you got this year as well. Thanks for posting I really enjoyed looking over your finds

Nice finds Tony! You are the greatest MDer I ever had the priviledge to hunt with! |) A couple things I noticed though. The seateds and barbers all organized neatly and facing up. But the mercury dimes are all oriented in a disorganized manner! :omg: What happened? Did you get tired picking up all those dozens and dozens of silver coins? Got a little bit lazy did we? Too tired to get the Rosies out for a picture? :hysterical: BTW, is the FFA pin silver? It looks it in the pic. Seriously though Tony, Congrats on a great year. I look forward to our next meeting. P.S. I see you are taking good care of my Walker!

Thanks, Todd! Hey, we just take what the defense gives us, right? If I lived up there I would be right there with you hunting cellar holes for colonial coins and relics!

It's just silver plated.

Thanks, Hook! And I'm always envious of the guys out east who find all of the really old colonial items! And I've never found a silver dollar either like you have!

Thank you, Al! I am very happy with the two-center and the seateds! As far as the snow, this is actually the first snow we've gotten here, such as it is. Down in southern Illinois they got 18 this past week but it missed us here.

That is one fantastic year for sure! What a great post! The pics are excellent. Thanks for taking the time to put is all together... it's great to see a year's totals like this.

I need to do the same with my 2012 finds but sadly I don't think it's going to be nearly this impressive!

The crotal bell was in a park right in the middle of a town near here. It was about 8 deep. Yes, very odd place for one. It's the only one I've ever found.

Nope, no initials on the bottom. Do you have any idea how old it is, Dan?

Tony I believe the button you have displayed (big eagle group of 5) Looks like one I found. Is it stamped on the back, Scofield mfg. Waterbury Conn. If so it is listed as a military overcoat button from WW1. Lot of good finds, I'm still looking at them. Both of us had 2-3 of the same firsts.
How many years have you been hunting? Congrats; Bill

It's rather hard to say, Bill. I used to watch my dad when he was metal detecting back in 1969 when I was 6 years old. I got my own metal detector somewhere around 1981, it was a Whites 5000-D and I hunted casually with it for about 6 years. In 1987 I bought a used Fisher 1260-X and got a little more serious with my detecting. I hunted with that machine until it quit working, which was sometime around 1999. From 2000-2010 I took a break from metal detecting, I didn't even own a machine during that time.

In February of 2011 I joined this forum, and everyone's success stories really got me interested in the hobby again. In March of 2011 I bought a new E-Trac, and now I hunt at every opportunity.

An absolutely amazing year Tony!! |) Look at all the beautiful silver.

It was fun following your hunts in 2012. The one coin I was very happy to see you dig... the two cent piece.

You had a great season for IH's too. Congratulations on the epic year. :beerbuddy:

Nice job and report, Tony. I delayed looking at it until today because I knew I'd be heartsick about all the stuff I missed when I was still back in Illinois and not swingin. Oh well, maybe I'll catch up. Seriously, you are a real motivator.

In one of your pictures, I saw a little square (aluminum I'll bet) token that says Illinois Retailers Occupation Token, or something like that. I just found one of those in my stuff last night and have no recollection of where it came from. Do you know anything about the history of those??

Regards,

Keith
