Cashed in most of my scrap metal from the 2012 season today:

Iron - 65# 0.1075/lb 6.99
Copper - 5# 2.60/lb 13.00
Brass - 11# 1.80/lb 19.80
Lead - 20# 0.40/lb 8.00
Total 47.79

Not as much in some years past, but every little bit helps add to the MDing fund.

Not a bad total, and look, all those finds means less in the parks. Nice... I would do the same but I have a hard time seperating the different metals. don't know whats what.

|:cheering: Nice Darren!
I always have intentions of saving and separating all my scrap finds for the year and do as you did , and cash it in at the end of the year.
But, I never have \:[ 8/ lol
Seeing this makes me want to do it even more! :envious: I just usually empty my pouch at a nearby trash can while in a park, or it gos into the recycle container when I get home.

How do you go about separating threw out the year? Separate buckets? :dontknow: :->

Very nice Darren, I need to do this but I'm not sure how to separate the different metals. Do you clean everything?

Whenever I've brought in my scrap, the guys at the yard do all the separating. They're pretty good at it. It's faster if you pre-separate it to the best of your ability, though. And you don't need to clean it.

Beware of mixed metal. I had a bunch of copper pipes, and if there's a brass fitting on one, the entire pipe goes into mixed, which pays less.
Ditto for old screens that still have the mesh in 'em, that sort of thing.
