Need help with a flat button and an old bullet casing

Hey diggers,

I went back to the old pre-CW house and found 2 interesting items. The first is a flat button with shank that rang up a solid 12-38. The back say LONDON TREBLE GILT and there is a wreath around the shank.

The other item is a old bullet casing marked 11 80 F. I think it is from November 1880 and perhaps a Colt .45 round? If anyone can confirm that would be great. Thanks for looking and HH, Dave.

hey Dave i'm not real familiar with the shell only to say it looks pre 1900 to me but the button is definately pre 1850's and maybe as early as 1810ish.

Thanks Tony! Your button sure looks good. I wonder what extra treble means? Since treble means to multiply by 3, how do you do that extra? HH, Dave.

I believe the cartridge case is a .50-70 Govt. inside primed, manufactured by Frankford Arsenal in Nov., 1880. The crimp near the head of the case retains a small iron holder for the primer which is held against the inside of the head of the soft copper alloy case. I found one of these years ago in California's Owens Valley on the site of Fort Independence.
