View Full Version : INTERESTING ABOUT EARLY MILITARY BUTTONS WE MAY FIND

I was always under the assumption these 1820's type buttons were coat buttons.I came across this picture of a Riflemans era cap and noticed this style of button was part of the shako hat design.
just thought i'd share some info.

the buttons , called kepi-buttons on the side of the shako style hats were for the most part a bit smaller than the coat ones but often the same design as their larger counter parts. those type of &quot:daydream: styled ones like your excelsior button Dave were very early ones and for the most part started around 1805-1808 (by regulars) and were still being used by militias as late as the 1820's.

well send some warm air down this way so the snow will melt
