Saturdays relics

heres my take of finds from last Saturday with some of AD's finest .

amongst the items are shoe buckle chapes and tongues , musket balls , about a handful of buttons , a brass drawer pull backing plate , pocket watch bezel , an oxknob and shoe toe tap and miscellaneous


My first find of the morning was this unusual looking piece of decorated brass
that i later confirmed as a military hat or helmet plume holder

while a bit rough and most of the top is either bent or broken but was a relatively easy id for me when i first recovered it, i have not yet narrowed down the exact date of the item but i'm pretty sure it is from just after the war of 1812 to maybe 1825 .

one of the other standout finds was this decorated silver plated suspender buckle and another nice surprise was this very small button or cufflink very dirty like Heavymetalnut's silver plated buckle , after cleaning that turned out to be solid silver with hand-tooled design

Thanks Tim , heres a link to a similar one they list this from the second florida indian wars , mine has lost the tall spikey spread out leafy tops as i'm sure they broke off

there were a lot of different types (Infantry , Artillery , Militia ,Cavalry all had their own designs) and some were used in Shako hats until the late Indian wars of the plains .

here a new type shako with a typical plume or pom (not the kind i found but more just to show how they looked in a hat , this particular looks to be an artillery or fusilers hat because of the exploding bomb at its base)

very nice Dave , you still haven't recovered those cannons huh?? i don't think mine was an Artillery type as there are no brazed marks around the base at all where the cannon ball would be attached.

:congrats: Wow ! Great Finds! I guess the trip was well worth it. Which one is the shoe tap the triangle shaped item on the right or the curved item on the right ? I love the buckles as well.
What's the name of that book for ID'ing Military uniform items ? Is that the Albert's Book ? I saw a book in Barnes and Noble but it looked kinda thin so I wasn't sure if it was the same one you guys use.
Anyways, :congrats: again, look forward to future Pics of your finds.
