Gold, Silver, and Copper

Yesterday afternoon I detected for about two hours at a small local park. It had been pleasant detecting under the shade of the large trees found there. The ground around them did yield a few nice coins too, a 1892 Barber quarter, a 1948 Washington quarter, several old wheat cents and a sterling silver piece.

Today I had intended to scout out a few parks in Central MA, but while on the road I made a detour to CT to detect at a park I had worked earlier this year. It turned out to be a good decision as I made several nice finds while there.

The area of the park I worked yielded ten silver coins, a 1939 Washington quarter, three Roosevelt dimes, dated 1952-D, 1956, and 1959, three mercury dimes, dated 1918-S, 1926, and 1945, and three Barber dimes, dated 1898-O, 1906, and 1914.

Soon after picking up one of the silver dime I hit on a good signal coming in at a depth of between six and seven inches and a Co of 27. This is what popped out of the ground - a fat 14kt gold band. :cheesysmile:

This poor large cent didn't stand a chance in that soil. :bangahead02: I can barely make out the first three digits, which appear to be 182? :confused:

I was ready to drop this piece into the trash pouch when I noticed the markings. It is actually silver.

Does anyone recognize the hallmark?

I also found 22 wheat cents, with several dated in the teens and 20's. :grin:

That can slaw may be from the year 1910 from Birmingham, England. Look at this link and scroll down to the year 1910 and see that the anchor is first. followed by the lion, and finally the lower case lerrer L. I don't know about the maker's initials though. Maybe someone else will know.
