I'm not sure, but isn't caliber the size of the base? Some gun slingers out there may have a better answer, but I think it needs to show the base on the ruler and not the height ? Maybe I'm wrong though.

Yeah, just rotate it 90 degrees on that ruler and it'll be easier to identify...

Does that help better. Looks like 1/2 or about 1 centimeter.

Thanks del. I thought thats what you said the day I found it. Remember? Off one of those roads Chris found his ring. Its a big one for sure. Must have been bear hunting that day.

Hi! Just joined and saw your bullet. It is a Civil War vintage 58 caliber minie ball. It looks like it was molded at the Springfield Arsenal in Massachusetts. Most of them were. You can tell by the way the rings look.

Fyi.. I have been hunting civil war stuff off and on for about 50 years.. My first year of hunting I got into a trench in front of Ft. Hell (Ft. Sedgewick) down in Petersburg VA. Found ten cases of minie balls, 10,000 rounds, stacked up and left behind when the troops moved out. AHH!!!! was a grand day!!!!
