Afternoon hunt yields Indians, V Nickels and a gun?

Such a beautiful spring day here today, high of 85 and sunny. So I went back to the same park I hunted a couple of weekends ago where I found the 4 V Nickels.

I only had about 3 hours to hunt, but I had halfway decent results in that time. I found 2 Indian Head Cents in the same hole, 1 Wheat Cent, 2 V Nickels and some clad. I also found part of a gun that was about 8 deep. It is very heavy and seems to be nickel plated? It almost seems too substantial to be a toy gun. I couldn't find any writing on it except what appears to be a serial number on the handle: 96553

Could it possibly be part of a real gun? If it is, it's a small gun like a Derringer.

After seeing those photos I looked at my gun again and you can definitely see where it says 22 CAL on it.

Tony i believe the age on those are around 1860's to maybe 1880's , a very close range weapon for personal pretection . i'm still waiting to find a &quot:beerbuddy:oot-Pistol :yes:

According to this website the gun with serial number 96553 was manufactured in 1877.
