Dave and I hit two cellar holes today that we had never hunted before. The first hole was tuff to find and we actually walked right by it and only found it after back tracking about 30 mins later lol.
The first copper I got here was right near the entrance and turned up as a 179? Draped bust and the second copper was actually on the edge of the lip hanging into the cellar hole. I was only able to hear it because i was standing inside the hole while swinging over the inner walls. Unfortunately, it is to smooth to ID. Then came a very interesting and unique find. I couldn't believe it but I got a Dagger or sword Hilt. It is smaller so I believe it is the hilt of a dagger...one of the coolest finds ever for me

A few hours later we decided to move on to another site. We only spent an hour there but I did manage to get my 1st Massachusetts Copper. It is a 1788 Cent that is a bit toasty but very easy to read. I think you missed this copper Dan :poke:

Well thats what I call a productive hunt! Any chance on date on that Draped Bust? Sometimes you can figure date by other features on it, do you have Sheldon's Penny Whimsy book? Nice Coppers and Relics...wow would love to hit a place like that!

O.k. but just my useless opinion on the piece . to me it looks more ceremonial or decorative than plain functionality and maybe from the late victorian era (1880's or 90's).
