A 2 hour hunt of a field that is next to an old country church and school yields only one coin but what a coin. The CTX was hitting solid 12-41 at 4 inches and I thought wheaty, to my surprise there was a 2 center in the bottom of the hole. The date is 1865 and it is only my second one in over 35 years of detecting. The two center is a rare find in my area because most places were not even surveyed until the 1840s.

Man, if you are only going to dig one coin that's not a bad one to get! Looks like it's in nice shape too, 2 of the 3 I've dug were corroded, crusty, and nasty. Huge congrats!

What a great find, Jeff, and it's in really nice shape! |:cheering:

You're right, they sure don't turn up very often here in the midwest.

:congrats: on your 2nd 2 center. They are a great coin to dig. My 1st one had me baffled cause I did not know that the US even made them. |:cheering:

Super Find Jeff. That is one of the coins on my list. There has been one found in Chippewa along with a Morgan Dollar.

That's how it goes sometimes, only a few coins but they are good ones. The corn field got me only 4 coins. One Lincoln penny, my first large cent, my first half dime and a seated dime turned into a jewelry pin and engraved on the back. Congrats on digging that good one from a place that one might think wasn't gonna produce.
