I didn't even realize it until I logged my finds this afternoon, but I found my 500th career silver coin this past Saturday. Unfortunately, I didn't get to hunt as much as I wanted over the 3-day weekend because it rained here all three days.

Career silver number 498 was this 1945-D War Nickel that I found at an old park after work on Friday.
61011

Career silver number 499 was this 1942 Mercury Dime that I found at an old school on Saturday morning:
61012

And career silver number 500 was this (drum roll please) ...

1964-D Roosevelt Dime!
THE MOST BORING SILVER COIN YOU COULD POSSIBLY FIND! lol
61013

Ah well, I am pleased to get number 500 nevertheless. I have actually found more silver coins in the past two years with my E-Trac than all previous years combined.

I also got number 501 on Sunday, another boring Rosie. ;)
61014

Here are my total finds for the weekend:
61015

And here are the keepers:

Nothing too exciting in the relics department:

That's it! Thanks for looking and happy hunting! :beerbuddy:

Congrats on the milestone Tony, and some nice keepers in spite of the rain! 500 silvers makes for quite the treasure chest! I can only hope to get there myself someday... maybe in a few years with a little luck. lol

Interesting! I love comparing numbers... I have 315 total silvers. I'm ahead of you on war nickels (I have 32), but you are CRUSHING me with the barber dimes (I only have 8). I'm surprised to see you haven't gotten a Franklin half yet. I live in green eyed envy :envious: :envious: :envious: of your seated quarter and Spanish silver... I can only dream!!! lol

So, what would you say where your top 5 silvers from that pile?

That's a tough one but I'll take a stab at it. I have yet to find anything exceptionally rare or valuable but I do have some favorites.

1. 1808 Spanish 1 Real - Found in 1984 on a hunt with my dad in his hometown.

2. 1877 Seated Liberty Dime - Found on January 21, 2012 in an old park. My first seated find.

Congrats Tony! I remember when you found the 1877 SD (our first time in that park I think). Hopefully your next 500 will come a bit quicker! HH, Dave.

I honestly have no recollection. It's even difficult for me to pinpoint when I started detecting exactly. My parents bought a Garrett detector in 1969 and I used to go with them and watch. At some point in my early teen years I took that same machine and went out detecting by myself. In about 1982 I bought my own detector, a Whites 5000-D. In 1987 I bought a Fisher 1260-X and sold the Whites. In 1999 that Fisher machine quit working and I took a break from the hobby until 2011 when I bought my E-Trac.

:wow: That is quite the accomplishment Tony :congrats: It would take me 95 more years at my current silver find rate to meet that lofty milestone. Actually, you have a much better chance of finding your second 500 silvers before I find my first 100 !!

That is quite a milestone. I doubt I'll ever reach anywhere close to that. You have some really nice finds in those coins.

Continued good hunting.

(Oh! And I agree with you 1000% regarding the silver Rosie. It has to be the most boring silver coin to find although I doubt that I would put it back in the hole lol )
