Wondering if anyone watched this show, and what their impressions were?

The best part of the series is that there are only 6 episodes so it should pass quickly.

i agree with your review on your blog.a little too much bragging about how much in value they dug in past.no emphasis on dangerous ordinances and the t-2 sounds while using a minelab? i laughed at that one.
the over enthusiasm which was scripted.i think all these guys are way more down to earth & humble than how they were made to portray themselves on this show. I think rather than monetary value (which the other 2 shows use) they should place a historical & rarity scale instead.
overall a step above the other 2 shows i think

I haven't viewed it yet, but I hope it's free to see lol I'm more inclined to watch someone dig a complete cellar hole with all the bordom attached  than a scripted show lol But that is just me. If I cross paths with it I will watch it once

I felt uncomfortable watching, like I was doing something I didn't want to be doing. I guess I put myself in the action, detecting along side the cast, and I just wanted to distance myself from most of the situation. Ron was the least goofy of the 6. I have been watching him for a while and he seemed not totally comfortable either. I watched a couple episodes of Diggers and can't bring myself to watch it again. I will watch Dig Wars again if only to see how Ron behaves in the next episode. I don't know him personally but I sorta feel bad for him. And yah, the sound editing was hilarious. They do that same thing with motorcycles all the time.

I think Dave pretty much summed it up! Did anyone notice that in the second episode that when Abby was detecting she came up on a open hole and pushed the plug back in. Glad to see she filled in a hole, but why did someone leave it open? Anyways, not a fan of all the dollar values and agree with Dave it should be judged by historical significance not $$$. They need a historian to judge not an antique dealer. I about puked  when I heard the minelab. I did find it funny when they planted the pennies for the other team, I've done that before. Dirt Diggler is already being used on another forum. Alright that's my honest opinion.

Apparently they didn't have any of the participants present when they were doing the editing.... At least I hope not. Also wonder how they chose those in the show?

I still say White's will be hard to beat with their top notch series on detectorists this episode features Jimmy Sierra.one of my idols and a wonderful man.
Treasure Hunting America Episode 101 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBTrR4Jet4s#)

a show such as this definitely holds my interest and is well done
Treasure Hunting America - Episode 102 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TmQwWGQIaY#)

Jimmy Sierra is indeed a class act, and an extremely knowledgeable treasure hunter. Too bad more people today are familiar with him Dave.

It seemed there were more heros in the old days. More passion for the hobby and less on the value of things. It's an adventure not an income. I still get excited when I go out to hunt. :smitten:

I heartily agree Coinut, but then I am much older and maybe just want to go back. My latest post on my blog mentions a few of the oldtimers, but I received only one response so I guess it is indeed just me.

I remember Hardrock Hendricks, Karl von Mueller, Richard Ray, Charles Garrett, Glenn Carson, Abe Lincoln, etc.... Was privileged to know a few of them, and it was a different era for sure.

There's a value to what we find? :dontknow:...I thought it was just sentimental value 8/......I've never sold a thing, don't plan on it, unless my family needed it to eat.... lol

I too am always excited for the days adventure and what may be found....or not.... >

But it is entertainment television....my only concern is all those people who go out and buy detectors thinking it's like that, or the general public who thinks we are getting rich off their land. >:#

Some of the best entertainment has been reading the abyssmal reviews on other forums.

Now I see they have gotten so bad the administrators are starting to pull the threads and bury them in obscure locations.

Do I sense a little string pulling going on there?

Dick , the best technology at play here is the DVR.
In my area the show is in conflict with Top Shot , a far more entertaining and talent dependent reality show where the contestants have to actually demonstrate their prowess with their particular tools , instead of just relying on bragging rights. Some of those who compete are just joe 6 pack types that have proven they can hold their own with the pros--an interesting concept for this detecting show.
After taping Dig Wars I can fast forward through it to watch the entertaining and interesting 8 minutes, now that's technology at it's finest!!!

Hey Nicklehead, I am in agreement. Dig Wars leaves a lot to be desired, but it's a notch above the others as of now. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and will watch all the forthcoming episodes. If they do not live up to MY expectations I will be sure to share my feelings on my blog.

Well other than just pure entertainment , i fail to see any benefit to the hobby this show makes....

I am more disappointed because it was said to be a different kind of detecting show but I didn't see it . There seemed to be a lot of emphasis on value of things or money worth of items like the other shows . Lets take our finds to the appraiser similar to another show , some cheap antics or pranks again like another show. I was even told by one of the crew members that this is real metal detecting sorry if you don't like real detecting , well i'm sorry but real metal detecting isn't finding a great , very valuable or even historical item every episode we go out . I understand you have to make the show entertaining and its sole purpose it to make money period. I can't answer for you all but i don't grab my detector an say to myself lets see how much money i can make today. These shows all hurt the hobby more then help and all of us will be scrutinized by the actions of these few , my greatest concern is just hoping the property owner hasn't seen any of these shows to have any preconceived thoughts about me or what i want to do on their property when i knock on his or her door to ask for permission. I think ChigagoRon is a great face an ambassador for the hobby and think he has done some really good positive shows and videos but believe he has lowered himself for this one and to me lost a bit of credibility for it , but everyone can make a mistake or two and i hope his next project he has more control over .

I think there are lot of people who are being overly critical of this show who would jump at the chance to be in it if the opportunity arose. JMO.

Maybe , I think more might worry about the effects the show might have on their fellow hobbyists and refuse . its not always about the money there are still some of us with principals Mr. Stout .

I know the museum Coinnut and I have been voluteering for was approached by one of the producers of these type of shows last year to do a piece about the project we are on . we convinced them it would not be a good idea because of their antics and materialistic views and we felt it would probably do more harm than good to the hobby and or the project.

:clapping: Well put, Dan |:cheering: Every one of these metal detecting shows that I have seen give a crappy image of what a detectorist really is. Jumping in lakes and climbing up trees after a cool find?? Do people really do that? Ask anybody who knows me, I like to have fun, but not that kind of fun when im detecting. I act like a professional when im on someone elses property. I certainly don't do this for the money. I give most of the cool stuff I find away, either to the homeowners because I know the items mean more to them than to me, or I give the items to the local historic society to be put on display forever so everybody can see it.

I don't think there can ever be a realistic metal detecting show. If anyone would care to see a realistic 1 hour show, next time out to the old field I'll record myself walking back and forth for an hour to dig 1 old button. Not very entertaining, but to me it sure is fun and relaxing. :detecting:

I viewed it and have come to the conclusion that there is no good way to do that kind of show. I don't fault them for trying, but in the end the detectorists will probably have zero say in what is in the final mix. It has to be TV ready or it will not make money. And if it doesn't make money it will not renew. Sad but true. I can see the draw in being on TV, the same as being a YouTube star, but for me, I rather just go dig some relics. Just my honest opinion.

no pulltabsteve make it really realistic and show you digging junk trash and lawn mowed pop cans for an hour and maybe comming home with some clad. that sounds like the most realistic metal detecting to me. when people ask me if ive found anything valuable i say yeah but im not getting rich off my machine anything soon

As if the resistance to getting permission to hunt a place weren't high enough already, they put this idiotic pap for the masses on? I do my best to show up clean/articulate/well dressed and hear, more often than notyou're not like on t.v.,are you? If ever there were a case for censorship, these shows are it! Just watched one and will never watch t.v. again! HH....
