Today I met up with midas to detect at an old site we last hit back in early June of last year. During that particular hunt I dug up from the site six coppers and a 1897-O Barber dime. John had picked up a Spanish half reale and other goodies. We were hoping for some old coins this time around as well, and we were not disappointed.

We worked the site hard, and midas managed to snag one copper, two seated dimes, and a silver Roosevelt dime. I dug up two badly corroded coppers (one is a Draped Bust large cent dated 1802), one silver Roosevelt, two mercury dimes, and two Seated half dimes, dated 1853 and 1857. They are in beautiful condition! We also dug up a couple of Indian Head cents, but they are in very poor shape.

Here are my finds from today's hunt:

The Draped Bust had been nine inches or so deep under a 3 root with smaller roots packed tightly together next to the larger root. It was impossible to dig down, so I had to dig at least seven inches away from the target to then dig sideways to scoop what I was hoping would be an old silver quarter. It turned out to be a copper, an old one, so I was happy with it, though disappointed at the amount of corrosion.

The following finds are from yesterday's hunt at another site. I dug up ten silver coins. The surprise was the 1952 silver foreign coin. It is a good looking piece.

Angel, those half dimes are absolutely beautiful! Full liberty on both, although a bit stronger on the '53 than the '57. They are incredible. I would have fainted lol :perfect10:

The coppers are toast, but still great finds in my book :clapping:

As you know, I fell in love with that foreign coin. It's beautiful. Congratulations on two more successful hunts, as always!

I hope John will post his seated dimes and other finds. :) :poke:

Fantastic looking 1/2 dimes. I can't remember anyone finding 2 of them in one hunt. Nice copper but sorry about the condition. Your plan of attack on getting it from the ground was great.

Once again your posts have inspired me to follow you to your next site, so we will be meeting soon.

As you know, I fell in love with that French coin. It's beautiful. Congratulations on two more successful hunts, as always!

I hope John will post his seated dimes and other finds. :) :poke:

You should have seen my face when I dug the second half dime. John knew I had another good coin when he glanced up from a short distance. lol

Yeah, the coppers are in a sorry state. :-\ The soil at that site is quite harsh on coppers and Indian Head cents.

The foreign coin is nice. Milco was kind enough to identify the correct country.

I spent about 15 minutes trying to get to that coin. There were swirls of smaller but thick roots I had to get through while digging the second hole. :shocked04:verreaction: I had visions of a capped or draped bust quarter, so giving up was not an option. lol

The last time I picked up two seated half dimes on the same day was back on March 10 of last year (http://www.americandetectorist.com/forum/index.php?topic=9181.0).

Back then I ended up digging up a total of four during five consecutive hunts (http://www.americandetectorist.com/forum/index.php?topic=9248.0).

Angel congrats on the 2 hunts, the 1/2 dimes look great as do the other silvers. The copper coins on the e. coast will all dissolve without our intervention/preservation and be lost forever along with all the iron relics and it's a shame! Good luck the rest of the season and please post your finds......
