Sitting on the steps waiting for Navy Davy to arrive I just couldn't resist taking a photo of the Little Sackville River that runs by my humble abode.

Today was the day that we were taking out Dean a fellow with whom I work with at the cruise piers.
Met up with him at a local school playing field where Navy Davy outfitted him with his backup Teknetics, Garrett pin pointer and Lesche tool. I had brought a Freedom 3 Plus for the newbie to use but.......it was like ....lending out your favourite toothbrush or pillow. That meant the AT Pro was once again religated to the trunk as a back up.

ND and I coached the bouy a tad and he was off to the dirt fishing grounds solo. His swing was stiff and reminded me of a bull in china shop. Looked like someone I knew on their first swing over 40 years ago! Of course after a few questions I came up with his digging name which comes from the Joseph Walmbolt book Choir Boys and promptly dubbed him Whatdoyoumeandean. ND and Whatdoyoumeandean hit it off well as both were retired hairybags (Canuck term for our naval personnel).
Coins were plentiful with most being on top in the grass or slightly under. Made for easy pickings and too boot I think between the three of us only a few pennies were found. Thank you Prime Minister Steven Harper for discontinuing the lowly copper. Navy Davy and I had pounded this field last year and if memory serves me well, as feeble as it is we dug 95% pennies here last year.
The three old bouys dug till the backs, knees and arms got sore. I informed Whatdoyoumeandean that as a newbie the price for todays lesson was a coffee for the instructors to which he gratefully agreed.
Whatdoyoumeandean's very first effort included a dozen coins with a leaf pendant.

ND almost made quota with 41 coins rescued.

Notice the AA pin....offered it to me after a stop at the NSLC for a pair of Saki bottles.
Bluenoser made quota totalling $25.85 which is just about what I spent at the smart shop.

Backtracking a bit ran into some of the fellows I used to play ball against. Mackie Fiander and I had quite a filibuster about the old days . He pulled out his cellphone dewy and showed a photo I have long forgotten about which can be found on the Hubbards Heritage web page. Notice the budding 3rd baseman second row, third from the right (looks like I was sporting one of Moms famous ceral bowl haircuts). Never made it to the bigs in fastball as a 3rd baseman but as a pitcher. Man where does the time go? Was 13 when this was taken
