Hey diggers,
Tony and I had such a good time on last year's road trip (despite the weather) we just had to do it again this year! I picked him up Saturday morning at his house. The temperature was in the 50's with only a slight chance of rain but mostly sunny skies. We drove north for about an hour and a half to meet IllDigger (Timmay!) and his friend Ted. I noticed we all had e-tracs. We bounced around a couple small towns and hit some small parks and old school yards. I'm proud to say I was the first of our motley group to hit silver! We stopped for a quick lunch at the ultimate greasy spoon restaurant and had ribeye sandwiches with greasy cheese-fries. Yummm..... We spent the rest of the day detecting around an old high school auditorium and nearby sidewalk strips. Timmay and Ted started knocking out silvers like crazy while Tony and I got lots of clad. >:\ I guess it was about 5:30 when we parted ways. It was such a pleasure to finally meet IllDigger (after 3 years of trying) and he turned out to be a super nice guy too. Tony and I drove as far as Kankakee and checked into the first run-down slum hotel we could find.

Day 2 was another sunny and nice day. We zig-zagged across northern Indiana hitting all the little towns we could. The Indiana soil is so soft and sandy and easy digging. The problem is I got tired of digging clad dimes and memorial cents at 8 inches deep! We managed a couple wheat pennies at the 10 to 12 inch depth but no silvers for me. Tony had found an INCREDIBLE old park along the railroad tracks. It had huge trees and nice original soil. Again, deep clad all over the place. We spent 2 hours there just trying to get a piece of a big silver at 12 inches and just could not find any. I am convinced the old coins have sunk too deep for even the e-trac to find. Tony and I both decided to never hunt in Indiana again! That night we drove to Dayton Ohio and got a nicer hotel room (next to a Waffle House).

Day 3 was sunny and warm with a breeze. We met up with Bell2Trac (Tony) and Doug-Man. They took us way out in the country to a recently cut bean field where a 1800s house had once stood. Some really nice coins and relics have come from this site so Tony and I were excited to get started. This was Tony's first field hunt and he was eager for the experience. We swung coils for 5 hours straight. I found 3 memorial cents (notice the trend?) and some nice old buckles. Although no one got any super finds that day it was lots of fun nonetheless. A super thank you to Bell2Trac and Doug for sharing their site with us. We drove home and I dropped Tony off at his house at 5:00 and then had two and a half more hours driving to get to my house. I was tired! We logged 1,167 miles and had some great fun meeting up with fellow detectorists. Here's some pics. Thanks for looking, Dave.

Nice post, Dave. I hope that you are feeling better.

I guess the crummy hotel room made for a better story. lol There's nothing like soggy carpet and the smell of mildew. :barf:

You definitely had some good finds! I love the tokens.

Next time we'll skip Indiana. thumbsup01

Great that you all got out and did some swinging. Hope this does not discourage Tony from any more field hunting.....

:congrats: on your silvers and IH's and all your other keepers.
