Today was a beautiful sunny day with a high in the mid 50s. I had a short window of time to detect today so I stayed closer to home and hunted at a site that I have pounded to death in the past.

My first good find of the day was the Shield Nickel. It is in rough condition but at least it's identifiable. I had previously found 3 seated dimes in this park so I knew there were potentially some older coins there. I got the Buffalo Nickel about 10 minutes later.

Here are my finds for the day:

The Shield Nickel has rays so it is either 1866 or 1867. Unfortunately there is no hint of a date on it, but it is my first Shield Nickel with rays.

The Buffalo Nickel is a 1916-D:

The presidential dollar was a nice bonus find.

Thanks for looking and happy hunting! :beerbuddy:

never ceases to amaze me what you pull out of the ground.

What is that thingamajig on the lower left?

I don't have a clue. I thought it might be a broken drawer pull but the type of metal doesn't seem right for that. :dontknow:

Whats that pc. that looks like a guitar pick?

That is a broken heart-shaped padlock. The other side of it is missing, exposing the inner workings.

Sounds like a nice day to hunt. Congrats on the Shield and Buffalo. Some older looking relics for sure, like the mini pad lock and what I think is 1/2 of a drawer pull. It almost looks like it is made of pewter.

Wow that shield is rough Tony. Still awesome! Cool on the semi-key buffalo. And the presidential dollars are always fun, I love digging the dollar coins. :)

Great score on the buff and shield Tony :thumbsup01: I almost think that all them parks around here have been hammered to death, that's about all I hunt when it comes to parks :)

:congrats:

Rough or not a Shield nickel is always a good find and the Buff with a date is nice too.

Awesome finds Tony. I found my first Buff a couple of weeks ago no date but left it with the homeowner. Will have pics soon showing it. You inspire me to really do my homework during the winter so that my hunts are more successful. Thanks HH

Nice outing Tony and way to coax that shield nickel out of the ground! We're all frozen up here, so keep hitting it while you can.
