This is a 4th Anniversary contest for AD. We are giving away the following:

-- 2 new Garrett AT Pro metal detectors

http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc224/epi-hunter/ATPro_zpsdafe31ad.jpg (http://s217.photobucket.com/user/epi-hunter/media/ATPro_zpsdafe31ad.jpg.html)

-- 2 new Garrett Pro-Pointers

http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc224/epi-hunter/ProPointer_zpsb573df86.jpg (http://s217.photobucket.com/user/epi-hunter/media/ProPointer_zpsb573df86.jpg.html)

Bart at Big Boy's Hobbies worked with us to provide these prizes at an excellent price! Thank you Bart!

Here are the details:

Prizes for the first part of this contest will include a new Garrett AT Pro and a Garrett Pro Pointer (to be given as two separate prizes to different individuals). All you have to do to enter the contest is to post to the thread that I have started for this contest, which is stickied to the top of this forum and is called "AD Contest Best or Most Memorable Find". We want to see your best OR most memorable find, along with background information/story (where you found it, why it's your best find, etc).

Note that this does NOT have to be a fantastic find in terms of historical or financial value; it can be your most memorable find for whatever reason. You can be a newbie detectorist and still win this contest. None of the finds will be judged - this is a drawing to include only those individuals who choose to participate by posting on the thread.

Everyone who posts to this thread will automatically be entered into the drawing for the AT Pro and Pro Pointer, as long as they are an active member here at the point of the prize drawing (defined as at least 20 substantive posts and regular participation, and/or at the discretion of administrators).

Drawing for the AT Pro and Pro Pointer will occur on December 31 at 9pm eastern time and will be videotaped.

After that, we will hold a second contest for the remaining AT Pro and Pro Pointer which will be the same or similar to this contest. (Previous prize winners will not be eligible for second contest).

Have fun and good luck :)

Thanks all!

I wanted to correct the drawing date from what I originally posted - I meant it to be December 31 (New Year's Eve) and not January 31 as I put the first time. Sorry!

I am going to require at least 40 entries for the contest to move forward... come on everyone, good chance to win great prizes! :) Thanks so much for your participation on AD!!!

Thanks for putting on this contest. The random drawing concept is an especially great idea. Those of us who are new and still learning have as much of a chance as some of the Legends here.
What a great way to end the year for someone.
good luck all

Being fairly new to detecting I am constantly amazed at what I find. I have not found anything of great value, a ring or two, many coins, a possible cannon ball mold, a few very old buttons, and pounds of objects that I cannot identify. But the greatest things that I have found are the friendships of others who share the love of the hobby. When I moved here from the deep south I found it hard to find friends, So I found a hobby that I could do by myself. Little did I know at the time that the hobby would become the source of every friendship that I now have.....Thanks guys. And while I still do the silver dance whenever Lee or myself find silver, I know that I have discovered what I want to do for the rest of my days every time I turn that machine on.

Angie the contest was a great idea and its always entertaining see some very very nice finds , to hear the story behind them and what they mean to the individual who found them . A special thanks to you and Bart for the generous contest prizes and also to the participating members who shared their pictures and story.

Good luck everyone

My apologies everyone :embarrassed:

I have been having technical difficulties the last few days here in the temporary housing that I am in (for those who don't know, my house was hit by lightning and burned on December 21st and my kids and I are displaced for the next few weeks or months). Added to that, the insurance company suddenly decided I should transfer to a more permanent temporary housing this week so I have been jumping through those hoops only to have that fall through totally today. *sigh* Hope others had a better holiday!

I will do the drawing tonight and post it before midnight. I had planned to have my daughter do the drawing but for the reasons listed above, she isn't with me right now. I really apologize for the delay -

Geez Angie!! I'm really sorry to hear of your turmoil! As if the holidays are hectic enough, adding that to the mix makes for "times that try men's souls".

Don't worry about the contest. Compared to what you're dealing with, it's nothing important. For several of us it's going to be months before we can get out swinging again anyway. Just take care of what you need to, and I wish you all the luck in the world.

Angie.
I think everyone can agree that this can wait until your schedule permits. There is very little that cannot wait until you have set up your home and family. Is there anything that can be done to help you in your time of need? I don't live to far if you need anything.

I'm sorry to hear about your house. My house burned down when I was 14. It was painful but you eventually replace most of the things. It sounds like you saved everything that is important. The contest can wait till it's convenient. Best Wishes

Thank you :) I'm back living in the house now but still don't have any furniture, etc to speak of. Sleeping on a mattress on the floor. But I will get there!

The lightning also hit the outside and destroyed the gutters all around the house and much of the exterior around it. They came today, bright and early (too early  ) to work on that, with lots of hammering.

I've had a big construction dumpster in my driveway since December so they can throw things away. I have taken to throwing my garbage in there too rather than worry about putting it into a small garbage pail and set it out at the curb every week. So I will miss that.

Hi Tom and thanks for the question!

Originally I thought it would happen by now, but due to the horrible weather and the very slow forum since no one could detect, I wanted to get to a point where things were a bit more active. Such as the coming few weeks with spring and people actually detecting!

I also had hoped for more people to enter initially and would really like to see more entries. :)

Don't worry George, I don't own a pinpointer so it would have to be 100 lashes with my SunRay

I haven't decided yet, to be honest. I very much appreciated those who took the time to post and enter, but overall I was a bit disappointed because given the value of the prizes, I expected more participation. The time of year could have been a factor in that, but this should be less of an issue now. It will happen this summer for sure. Right now we have another contest with a very nice detector as a prize, courtesy of our sponsor John at JMT Metal Detectors.

We wanted to give back to the forum members for their participation and contributions here, in making this forum a great one. I have not seen another detecting forum give away these level of prizes for contests, and it's really something I want to be very special about AD and showing our appreciation for our members. :)
