Just found my 2nd 1800's coin in the past week ! That's great for me due to hunting mainly schools and parks that are maybe 60 years old . This coin was not really a surprise find in this location . About 5 years ago I found a 1972 Seated half at 8 inches at this same location . Also found a 1892 Barber dime at this location around 3 years ago .
This coin was a good 7 - 8 inches deep and it gave off a high tone of +81 - +83 . When I first saw the coin I knew I had silver  ! At first I had no idea what it was till I just lightly wiped away some dirt and then I saw 1832 ! It turned out to be my oldest coin ever ! http://z5.ifrm.com/9054/118/0/e14010/e14010.gif It's a 1 Franc with King Louis Philippe I on it . Very cool looking coin . Could this have been used here in California before it was a state ? Any info would be great !

more then likely Glen foreign money wasn't outlawed as legal tender until 1857 so it very possible it was used to buy goods back when California was just a territory. its a great find :perfect10:

hey how big is the coin a 1 Franc would seem to be a large denomination back then to lose

It's quite large , the size of a quarter .

I would have liked to have had the camera and taken a picture of it in the hole but my son was using it for a wedding ring search this morning . He did find the ring ! I'll post that story tonight !

That is an old silver coin. Don't see too many silver foreign coins that old around here. Nice catch. Did you say the ring was found?? :shocked04: :groovy:

Ring returns are rare. Most people think they know where they lost it but not often you can find it unless it was a very recent loss. Congrats on a successful hunt and ring return
