Was able to get out again today for a short hunt. Same pine grove as the other day. Only dug a few holes. Regards the coin...I can't find a Newman number that has such a cockeyed "T" in cent. :dontknow: ...and let me admit, I've NEVER been able to find a Newman number. I guess I don't have an eye for such detail. I have no idea what that chameleon looking thing is. Thanks for looking.

As for the large cent, in Breen's it looks like a #1798 and in Newcomb it may be 8, 9, or 10. The tilt is not as pronounced in the pics that Breen has, but it may be an early version that was later re-engraved to be more upright.

My guess was a Newcomb N-8 but hard to tell from picture.

i don't think its an ornate side plate , only if its flat on one side to lay flat against the wooden stock of the gun otherwise its some other decorated piece.

nice LC drew! how did you and dan do today? Thanks everyone for the info and congrats.
Dave, yesterday I got a button, spoon bowl, and a tongue and chape that swivels. It was a very quiet day.
I couldn't find Dan for the longest time....like 2 hrs....then finally I text him to say that I have to leave....he texts back that he's already in his car, on the way home! I was like WAAAA?

yup i received a call from my Daughter , she was getting out of work earlier than thought and I was her ride . So unfortunately I had to leave but not until I had called out to Drew a few times ( I think he uses his earphones with both cups) so I never got a shout back and it was getting close to 2 o' clock. Sorry again Drew :embarrassed:

Oh yea, definitely not a side plate. It just reminded me of one at first glance. :thinkingabout:
