i bought this coin in an auction on another forum with the intent to make a ring with it. after making numerous rings from clad halves, and a ben franklin ring i had posted previously here, i finished the columbian ring.

I finished the ring and wore it a couple days, and then couldnt get it off of my finger http://metaldetectingforum.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

had to resize it, which meant re annealing it (heating it). then buff it out nice and shiny, then throw it in a ziplock with a smashed up boiled egg for a couple hours.

then i lightly buffed out the high points ,(date, wording and such), with 4 ought steel wool. well now i ask you all....how did i do?

Probably one of the nicest coin rings I have seen. Great vision in ending up with the writing and other elements of the coin ending up in perfect positions. Gotta give it a :perfect10: Great work Hook.

Hook you did a fantastic job on that ring for sure :thumbsup02: Tom I think the hard boiled eggs tarnish it for that rustic look but don't mark my word

thanks giant! and you are correct. the suplhur from the egg yolk tarnishes and/or tones it to make the buffed out high points pop.

:perfect10: That is beautiful. I had never heard of this process before so I looked it up until YouTube. There is a lot of info out there and it makes me want to give it a try. I'll need to find some a couple.coins first.
