how many here dig them large iron or over load targets??

Depends on the age of the site for me Dan. If its old like colonial then occasionally I do. If there is a lot of Iron around the site then I don't usually bother unless I know I can get back there a few times to try and clean it out. Otherwise, I don't consider it good time management.

I do Del, I dug a canon ball where there was civil war training, I got the overload signal and brushed the dirt with my foot and seen a dome shape, it ended up being a canon ball, the day before I seen an oldtime dig a union breast plate about 30 feet from where I found it. It was in a spot where they were going through with earth movers making an extension to one of the main roads in Battle Creek Michigan and it's all covered with pavement now.

I dig overload signals. Heck, they are the easiest to dig, and let's face it, I'm the Iron Queen! I'll be headed to the local scrap yard to cash in my tons of iron, real soon! As far as time management, it's a hobby, so to some, it's all a waste of time, but for me, it's a passion, a hobby, and I'm not in it for making money! It's the thrill of the kill! (find)

I do dig the overload signals, well the ones small enough to be dug by hand. Found a 55gal drum once! That one gave me a bad feeling, like why would someone bury a 55gal drum? Can you say toxic waste? I have found lots of old steel and iron stuff too a lot like Kasey does. An old skill-saw blade gave me a good overload signal out in the woods one day. I try to stay away from the overload signals at the beach though, most turned out to be old lobster traps that your not supposed to touch.

please post pictures of any overload targets you have found maybe it will convince a few to start digging them up ;)

It kills me to think what I might have left in the ground in my early detecting days Dan. I passed on an an overload signal once. I hit it again later and decided to dig it. Turned out to be a powder flask. That got my attention.

I dig every signal you never know.

Risk vs. reward so to speak. If it's an old site, the target is reasonably small and not iron infested then I dig it. Usually can find a few decent things this way. Newer site, larger target not worth my time. Todd also brings up a good point. If you've just got say 3 hours, then also maybe not worth it regardless, especially if you know you can spend more time there later.
