View Full Version : An odd item at the park

37933Today after being cooped up for a week being sick, I went out for couple hours for some fresh air. Went to a little park of a town that had big stores and theaters, banks & a school before the 20th century. While detecting in the city park, dug some trash and a little clad when this decent target comes up! There was a rail road depot there then too, so maybe this guy worked there! Any ideas on its age would be interesting!

its a very unique piece Otis what kind of attachments does the back have , can you show a picture??

The single screw post attachment is just like the ones for WWI military badges. I agree its probably for a hat. Nice recovery!

yes its definitely a hat badge , it looks like your piece is missing the lower banner that says "Inspector" . heres a link to one around 1940's but i bet your is a bit older by the looks of the shield and wings of the eagle and the fact the letters in U.S. Customs are hollowed out instead of solid. its in really nice shape Otis :perfect10:

I believe the "blob" is the remnants of the brazing or solder that held it Drew.
