This is an email I got and felt I should share, and hope it is helpful.
Thanks, John.

Hello Joe and Mike, I am not sure if you spoke about Counterfeit detectors
and pin pointers at a ECRDA meeting. If you have then please disregard this
memo.

This was recently posted on the Treasure Depot and it has become alarming.
The counterfeit detectors and pin pointers has expanded and may even be sold
by dealers in the US.

Here is the post that I got permission to copy:

Metal Detecting Friends.....Please read this..
I am putting together a video warning you not to buy any used metal detector
unless the seller can prove it is a legitimate detector. There has been
thousands and thousands of counterfeit detectors shipped out of China. The
problem is that none of the factories will work on them..If you send it in
for repair the legitimate manufacturer rightfully refuses to provide
service. The detector then is not worth the money to ship it back. I have
just received today two Chinese counterfeits for this video. The Chinese
copy the detector so well that I cannot tell any difference in the box,
packing, manual or the machine. But of course the legitimate
manufacturer..Fisher in this case..can easily tell the difference.. These
detectors are now hitting the used detector market at similar prices to a
legitimate detector..The ones I have are the Teknetics T2 and the Fisher
Gold Bug...They are also counterfeiting the F75 and the Teknetics G2. I
would NEVER buy any of those detectors used..unless it had been sent to
Fisher/Teknetics and verified that it is their product. The purchasers that
bought these counterfeits from China are taking advantage of this situation.
There are also major detector dealers that have taken part in this scam...Be
wary and be aware...

There are also utube video's of a fake Fisher detector where the shaft just
bends as you detect. Funny to see but a sad story for the person who bought
it.

Don't b too hard on the Chinese when things like this happen. The Chinese typically manufacture what is requested by purchasers to the specs requested. If low quality specs are supplied and paid for, then low quality is the product. I have been to China a couple of times and have found that they are industrious and good natured folks who can produce very high quality when purchasers demand and pay for the high standards.

Thanks for the heads up. Is it only used machines as they said in the memo, or are there some new that are sold online? I can easily see buying one online packaged as "new" and not knowing it ships from China.
