I found my first seated quarter, it's a smoothy but I'll take it, especially since I've never found one before today. I was hunting a woods spot where I found my first silver of the year last year. I found the ring before I did the quarter, most of the other coins were from a couple spills, I kept the rusty can top because it has the old style tab on it yet, it was a fun hunt for sure, heck the ring itself had me all charged up raring to go.

When I found the seated quarter I was all wrapped up in grape vines and briars, when I cleared the leaves I also cleared the quarter with it so I didn't even have to use my lesche to retrieve it

The ring is a really thick heavy one, it had a higher range half dollar reading, this really got me raring to go, I found it before I found the seated half.

Sweet! A seated quarter is pretty much tops on my wish list. Throw in that ring and you've got one heck of a hunt right there. Congrats!

Ha! You lucky dog you! :congrats:

I've had to do spring chores while the weather has been on my side, so I haven't had a chance to get out. :bangahead02:

That's a nice pull. When I was a kid hunting with my Dad I pulled a seated dime /Quarter spill and the coins were maybe an inch or two under the ground. Can't remember ever finding another Seated Quarter. great find Wisconsin Digger

Great coin and glad to see you had a nice hunt. I've found a few nice finds deep in the thickets and briars as well, but a find like that makes it well worth it. Just check for those ticks afterwards!

Huge congrats on your first seated quarter, Larry! :groovy:

I have only found one and it is an identical twin to yours. Mine was also a very worn 1876-S.

That silver panther ring is also a very cool find! That's a nice hunk of silver for sure.

:congrats:

Nice finds. I concur, I'd be happy to find that coin even if a little worn. At least there is enough to identify type and date.

As far as the ring goes. I think it has to do with the size on how it is read by the machine. A weird piece I found a few weeks ago is the exact diameter of a $1, but it's about 1/2 the thickness. It still rings the same as a $1 on my machine. Mexico stamps all their rings with silver. Usually it's stamped with .925 and now .950 (I have a few like that) but I guess this is n-80 (or 80% silver)

Seated quarters are hard to find, at least for me  Yours looks like it was in an area way past it's time frame, but was pocket change. Any Seated quarter is a gem in my book.

Thanks for all the great replies everyone :thumbsup02: now I need to find me a seated half dime and you never know some day I might even find the seated dollar (or trade dollar), just dreaming about them silver dollars, they're a tough one to find.

Great find. I love finding seated coinage. Last year I got to scratch a seated half dollar of my bucket list and recently I got to scratch off a seated half dime. I found my first seated quarter and dime over 30 years ago and it wasn't until last year that I started popping more seated out of the ground with 2 seated quarters, seated dime and seated half. Congrats on your find. Keep hunting that area, there may be more.
