First Silver Cufflink

On the way home from work I hit an area of woods that I sped through a couple of times in the past. I made a mental note to get back there and go slow because the iron sounds good. In an hour I pulled a button and a cufflink. I just ran water on it...it seems like it was made yesterday.

sweet Cufflink Drew , they are the colonial "tudor rose" motif and definitely "Georgian era" and being silver no doubt belong to someone with wealth or prominence and loyal to the crown. :perfect10:

Finds like that are very cool Drew. You really can imagine them being worn by someone. Judging from the size of the nail hole on what I am guessing is your deck rail cap, are they about the size of a 3 cent piece ??

Beautiful flower designed cufflinks! I would not call them Tudor Rose however, in general they have five petals not four. Regardless, in beautiful condition and intact. Trimes, heck have not seen one of them in the dirt in over a decade (or two), but they are more "modern" than what I usually find. :)

Don I agree they normally have five petals to represent the Tudor Rose but i have seen them with four petals and even 6 petals , its the overall design that is remarkably similar to the "usual" style motif. Don I added a couple of pictures of the 6 petal and 5 petal types .

Drew some cufflinks have the design cast into them , meaning the metal was poured int a cast that already had the design. the tooled or carved images were just that put onto the surface after they were made upon close viewing with a magnafying glass , you should be able to see the difference.

It has always been a discussion item on what is and isn't, yet alone the arguments on military or not. :) I agree Tudor Rose like, but I said in general a Tudor Rose button has five petals and I stick with that definition for my finds.

Don I agree these are probably not military and feel those would be more accurately represented with the five petals . I'm still searching for my "rose" type cufflink , have many "pin wheel" motif types . How about you Don you probably have a few sets by now??
