The fellow that lost this lapel pin was a veteran of WWI. You can only hope he never had to deal with the horrors of trench warfare. Let's try not to forget the many soldiers that fought in past and present wars, that did not come back home.

Jeff my Grandfather (on my father side ) fought in WW1 , being a Frenchman living America , he felt compelled to fight for the other country he called home and loved. Although I never got to meet him personally I heard about some of the horrors of the trench warfare and "no man's land" through my Father and uncle . He was injured by a gas attack offensive the German's launched (scarred and damaged his lungs permanently) but he survived to return home to marry my Grandmother . I covet the similar collar disk of his that was given to me by my Dad.

If that item could only talk , its a great military piece and thanks for sharing it.

That's nice you have something to honor him by Dan. I've read a few books on WWI and I am sure I can't even come close to imagining how bad some of those battles and conditions were.

Thanks for reminding everyone what the day is really for. Great collar brass. I've never found one with the screwback still intact. Very good find indeed. Best wishes and HH, Dave.
