Yesterday I went to a 1908 farm house I got permission at. I worked most of the property, the side yard and the front yard.

My first signal in the side yard was a 62 on the VDI, solid and strong, just like a pull tab, but I dug anyways...

Only four inches underground, I was expecting to see a beaver tail ring; but to my disbelief I spot a round, coin like object in the hole. Thick and green... "That's a weird lookin' wheatie… is it a foriegn coin? No...

IT'S A FLYING EAGLE CENT!" My VERY FIRST one! First target too! :shocked04:

I stroll around in the yard some more and I pick up a couple memorials and a few early wheaties here and there and I get a 69 signal only about 5" underground and I thought was going to be another wheatie... but this one didn't have wheat ears on it... but a wreath... an Indian Head Cent!!! That makes FOUR varieties of the small cent dug today!!!

Other than coins, I dug a lead toy soldier, a home made lead sinker, a shot gun shell and a dog tag. All in all my best day in a while!!!

That Flying Eagle Cent is a great find, Isaac! That's a coin that most detectorists never find. (I'm still looking for my first.)

Just goes to show you that you should dig every repeatable signal in a private yard.

:congrats:

Thank you for the nice comments everyone! I try to dig every repeatable signal in hopes for a gold ring. I guess the Flying Eagle came first, hey I'm not complaining. :thumbsup01: I haven't cleaned it in any way yet and I can already make out a date of 1857!

Now that's a fun day! About 6 weeks ago I had a 3 centuries of silver day with a half real, seated half dime and Barber dime. It's a lot of fun having those kinds of days. Way to go!
