here are only a few pictures of my finds from yesterdays hunt .

http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr228/del1786/2014%20finds/july19thfinds1_zps19a750ec.jpg (http://s486.photobucket.com/user/del1786/media/2014%20finds/july19thfinds1_zps19a750ec.jpg.html)

anyone know what these large brass items are
http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr228/del1786/2014%20finds/unknownbrass1_zps57c2a85f.jpg (http://s486.photobucket.com/user/del1786/media/2014%20finds/unknownbrass1_zps57c2a85f.jpg.html)

they look like they go together like this , i'm wondering if they are some type of axle race for an old wagon or more modern. I have found similar pieces of ones but smaller at other sites.

http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr228/del1786/2014%20finds/unknownbrass21_zpse04998f5.jpg (http://s486.photobucket.com/user/del1786/media/2014%20finds/unknownbrass21_zpse04998f5.jpg.html)

I found two coppers(and 1834 large cent and King George II copper) both were pretty rough.almost 30 buttons total and some other trinkets .
between Dave (HEAVYMETALNUT) and I we recovered 5 artillery buttons ( yes Dave the small convex is an eagle with an A on its chest type ) from two small stone walled pens . the 4 i found all are different types and the most i've ever recovered in one hunt .cleaning them has been challenging and unfortunately i only have pictures of one that is done for me . this one i'm showing has been a type I've wanted to find for quite some time now , its one of the more rarer convex type 1st Regimental Light Artillery button with the "wedge shank" and since these were used from 1808 to 1821 it classifies as a War of 1812 button . Its stamped kind of lightly but has a boarder with15-six pointed stars and intertwined foliated script LA letters with the number 1 in oval below. i took a few shots of it in different lighting and angles so you can see it. unfortunately I could not find this type of button on the internet to show and compare it to .

hopefully the other buttons will clean up as well as this one and Ill show them when i get them done .

Dave and Todd , thanks again for the invite this button alone made it worth the long drive , grueling hikes and fighting off the biting insects.

Isaac , it was pretty funny as I purposely left my glasses (only need them to read or look at small items) in the truck and I didn't even know what the buttons were until Dave told me . Thanks

Dave I thought for sure you were just busting my stones about the buttons seeing as I was at blind as a bat to see any detail:lol: I never would of left that area if i had known they were military types.

Dan Any time Dan, we don't do it often enough. How do you like being a third wheel now?

Dan, I am pretty sure your button is the same as mine that I dug a few months ago 40790

Todd your button has less wear in the middle than mine and great color to it , the Alberts book list these with a rarity scale of 35 . the same as Dave's 1-piece connecticut. did you find that one in the same area we were in ??

Great finds. All the buttons look great. I would go with some type of axle Bushing on the two piece relic.

Awesome reports gents. That is one cool looking site.

Hope you figure out what those are Dan. They do have a strong resemblance to engine bearings. Maybe an axle shaft lubed with 90W Goose Grease?

Great finds Dan and congrats. Love all those old buttons. Agree the bugs are rough right now. The big brass thingy could be an connecting rod bearing for an old tractor or similar machinery, that's if you believe there was activity at the site until the turn of the century. Just guessing though.

Well here are some of the other buttons , it seems all the ones in the enclosed small pen were much more damaged then the others. I suspect the reason that they were in rougher shape is because it was an animal pen (ox , cows and even horses) where they were kept for long periods of time.

even the large cent was rough

http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr228/del1786/2014%20finds/1834largecent2_zpse27b7b1e.jpg (http://s486.photobucket.com/user/del1786/media/2014%20finds/1834largecent2_zpse27b7b1e.jpg.html)

the first button is a small 15mm cuff size convex button , on it is an eagle with a shield on its chest and a block A upon it. I still yet can't find an exact size and type match.

the next is a scripted (flat) L A 1ST Regiment button 1808 to 1821
http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr228/del1786/2014%20finds/LTArtilleryflatbutton11_zpse9aa2366.jpg (http://s486.photobucket.com/user/del1786/media/2014%20finds/LTArtilleryflatbutton11_zpse9aa2366.jpg.html)

and what it must of looked like new
http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr228/del1786/2014%20finds/ltartillerybuttonflat_zpsabb0a13c.jpg (http://s486.photobucket.com/user/del1786/media/2014%20finds/ltartillerybuttonflat_zpsabb0a13c.jpg.html)

the last is a Scripted L A on a lined field with stars around also 1808 to 1821 Light Artillery
http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr228/del1786/2014%20finds/LTArtillerywithstars31_zps10f14d89.jpg (http://s486.photobucket.com/user/del1786/media/2014%20finds/LTArtillerywithstars31_zps10f14d89.jpg.html)

and what it must of look like new

http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr228/del1786/2014%20finds/ltartillerybuttonwithstars_zps3896de4b.jpg (http://s486.photobucket.com/user/del1786/media/2014%20finds/ltartillerybuttonwithstars_zps3896de4b.jpg.html)

despite their condition I feel very fortunate to have found them . I went from finding no early scripted military buttons in almost 15 years of detecting to finding 3 all in one hunt.

HH everyone .
