Some major projects around the house have really limited my detecting time last few months. But I was determined to get out this morning for a few hours. Plan was to poke around a site I've hit in the past but as I was hiking in I decided to swing north on a hunch. Found a cellar hole but it was late 1800's vintage and because it was right on an old dirt road it was full of 1900's trash.

I was able to sniff out some relics and just had fun detecting. Didn't have time to break out the small coil but I suspect I can pull some silver from that trashy site.

Found a well worn terret, another one of those brass scythe handle things, nice little brass padlock, makeup compact, and a mystery cone shaped piece with that bracket on the side. Whatever it is it went over a wooden spindal like a cart arm end piece or similar.

The shoe buckle chape I found at site I have cut through a dozen times at least on my way to other sites. There was a house built on a slab there as late as the 1960's. There are a few delapitated out buildings still standing. Never detected there as I figured it would be all modern junk. Spent 10 minutes swinging the coil there on my hike out and found that chape and a pewter whatsit. I will need to revisit that site.

Stay safe!

A lot of high beeps there! What is that thing that looks like a ram rod guide? To the right of the lock. Is it open on the top side? Congrats Jeff :)

Nice set of finds and also love the small lock. The cone-shaped thing almost looks like some kind of valve stem cover for an old car or tractor wheel. Not sure though.

Don, those are clock guts (internal gear frame). Very common around here at the mid 1800's and later cellar hole sites.

Drew & Dan, the piece still has some wood in it and you can see where it was secured with two screws. I'm thinking some kind of horse cart hardware but can't find a match yet. I have some close-ups. Will post them when Photobucket quits misbehaving and opens up for me.

Here are some close ups of that piece. :dontknow: In the second photo you can see the screws that fastened it to the wooden insert. Any ideas would be appreciated.
