I am glad I found this forum. I was always interested in metal detecting, but only recently was given an old unused detector and now wish I had started long ago. Though I found a fairly old coin in my yard after about the first 20 minutes, I am just as fascinated with finding pieces and fragments of history for a location. I have just started working on a site that may date back to 1800s.

Being new I have plenty to learn and hope to be able to ask a lot of questions!

Welcome from SW Illinois to the best forum around for metal detecting! Lot's of experience and good advice can be found here. What type of metal detector are you using? We look forward to seeing what great treasures you find (we like pictures too)! HH, Dave.

Welcome aboard from western, MA. Ask away on the questions. It is extremely easy to get hooked on detecting  But what gets you is that it's not all about the coins. Every relic, coin, jewelry, toy, etc... is what makes this hobby exciting. Keep swinging that coil! :detecting:

My unit is a Treasure Tracker MX8 - yes, it is so old, that the ONLY manual I could find was a hard copy on ebay! but between the forum and some youtube vids, I got a handle on the workings. My father got it more than 20 years ago and never used it. But it has ground cancel, discrimination and sensitivity, so I am learning to use it and its not too bad. But now that I'm hooked, I'm already looking for a newer unit! lol
