Digger Don obtained permission to hunt the yard of a house built in 1890, and he invited me to tag along. It was very kind and generous of Don to extend the invitation to me. You are an upstanding detectorist, Don!

We met at the address at 8:00 yesterday morning and started swinging the coils. In quick order I found a Buffalo Nickel. I didn't realize until I got home that it is a key date 1915-S in really nice shape. After that I found a 1928 Mercury Dime near the edge of the driveway, then a 1963 Rosie in the middle of the circle drive.

I then moved to the back yard and after a while I got an iffy deep high-tone signal. When I got down to about 7-8 inches deep I saw a silver quarter in the bottom of the hole, and I could tell that it was really worn. Some prudent "field washing" revealed the coin to be an 1876-S Seated Quarter.

After lunch we hunted the site for another couple of hours with little to show for it, so we decided to drive around and do some door knocking. At the first "yes" I found another Rosie, and then an 1888 Seated Dime that was only 2" deep!

We then obtained permission to hunt the house next door which was vacant. The owner told us that Abraham Lincoln had actually spent the night in this house. It was a small brick house that dated back to the 1850s. Within 10 minutes I got a 12-44 signal, but after I got the plug opened up the target probe was showing 12-47. About 8" down I found a large disk that I knew must be a large cent! Sure enough, it was a Matron Head! Really toasted, but I think the date might be 1828.

What a fun day! Thanks a million for the invite, Don! :notworthy:

I'm very happy for you Tony! You got some great coins there. I think you and Don have some kind of cosmic-luck thing going. How about sending some of that mojo this way? ;) Is it my imagination or do you find a lot of 1876 seated coins?

You had a fantastic day Tony. I'm glad we were there to share it with you. Every time I looked your way, you were video taping another great find. Obviously, the two seated coins are awesome, but I really like that medical Pin. We definitely need to go back to that town. there's a whole lot of houses that we haven't hit yet . Anyway, Congrats on ALL your finds and I'm looking forward to the next hunt.

Way to to Tony! It looks like you had one fine day detecting and I can't think of anyone who wouldn't be happy with a day of finds like yours. In all my years of detecting I haven't had many that could match this. I guess I have to get comfortable with the fact I have to actually start knocking on doors of strangers. I usually get permission from a friend of a friend or Realtor buddy, but it seems the knock on the door does work. Great finds!
