had this soaking in cold peroxide since saturday taking it out periodically to pick at it with a metal nut pick.this was some stubborn verdigris and took hours of surgically picking away at the crustiness with a jewlers loop jammed in my eye socket.the thin layer on reverse doesn't wanna let go so,i'm going to leave it.kinda looks cool making the date and lettering stand out.

Super cleaning job, you just rescued an important piece of history.

Will the cold peroxide work on Indian Heads as well?

I didn't realize that you could leave coppers in peroxide for that long. I'm trying it now on my '87 copper. lol. I'm not a follower . I did try it in hot peroxide just after I found it, but for maybe 15-20 min. It looked somewhere between the first two pics but with uniform brown/red color. Within the first couple hours this soaking, the letters are more prominent. Overnight there wasn't too much change probably because taking it in and out allows the bubbles to come off and peroxide to reach surface.. Thinking to try soaking for a long time on the coin I found in Pomfret as well. I still have no idea what it is and theres nothing to lose on a coin like that. That unidentified one is a bit thicker so there is material that can possibly be given up.

Nice results Dave and agree the remaining green verdigris on the reverse actually gives the coin character. Great detail suggesting it was dropped at a relatively young age.

Dave, at the request of IP, he asked me to look at the variety of your 1785, since he thought there was a possibility of being a Rarity 7 variety! Soooooooo, I looked and looked and tried to change your feature but no, it is not the R7 variety, but an R4. We were hoping it was a M.3.1-F3, but it is a M.3.3-F.3 variety..... Still a great CT copper.... Don

That's a might nice CT coming out of the ground. Most of the state coppers come out of the ground are really toasted. Way to go!

Nice work. After looking at the first picture I though it might be toasted. Thanks for proving me wrong.
