lined up several sites to hunt all owned by the same man. I posted 3 plat maps view of the general area I want to hunt. You can see that several of the home sites shown on the 1865 map are gone on the 1874 map. Also the Church is in one place on the early plat maps and across the road in the 1909 map. I've hunted the school shown and hunted the church built in the late 1870's but I haven't located the original site of the log cabin used for the Friend's meeting house. The areas I want to hunt the most are the ones show only on the earliest map. You can see a saw mill on one map but the grist mill was never labeled on any of the maps. I know there was a grist mill there because the owner has one of the mill stones at the end of his drive. I have permission to hunt anytime I want. Just thought I'd show a little of the research I do to locate old sites to hunt.

Nice work. We use the oldest maps we can get here too. Our only problem is that by the time we get to a proposed site, there has been a modern house built on it that was not even on the satellite images :ticked: Great job on the old plat maps. :clapping:

A good friend of mine gave me the atlas I have. He bought it from the historical society about 30yrs ago. The only other atlas like it that I've seen is in the county museum. I used to go there and make copies of the maps I wanted but their copy machine wouldn't make them large enough. I share mine with other people that detect in this county by taking digital photos of a township map and emailing them to whoever needs it. They can enlarge the section of the map they need and make it easier to read.
