So my dad went hiking today on a modern trail and brought me along, I also brought my detector just in case. After finding out it was a junkyard in the 20s and 30s I had no hope of finding anything good.

That was until I got my first signal which was a solid 83, 84 reading 4" on my machine, I dug down three inches and to my surprise I see a copper in the bottom of the hole!

Turns out to be a 1816 Matron Head Large Cent which is the first year of the Matrons, I didn't find anything else this hunt.

Once you find a LC it really doesn't matter if you find anything else. That's a great find and better that you actually found it at a junkyard. :congrats:

For a single coin hunt you did quite well. Always pays to turn the detector on. great find. WD

WTG on the LC, you got lucky seeing it was around a junk yard. Must have been a ton of trash.

1816 , a great year to celebrate ... A full year to recover and prosper from the ravages of the war of 1812 and from Europe the great news of Napoleon's army being crushed at Waterloo . congrats on the fine copper matron Sam !!

Thank you, yes it was my first signal too. Found nothing else the rest of the hunt which is kinda strange but I'll take a LC any day!

Thanks! It was an unexpected find, it's also strange that I turned on my detector swung and it was my very first signal there.

Haha thanks, if it was my choice where we went I wouldn't have picked that spot! I guess it may have been worth it though!

A two hundred year old copper in a junk infested location AND on the first swing.

That must be one of those good karma things I have heard so much about. :omg::congrats:
