Found this at an old cellar hole a few weeks ago. Was pleasantly surprised to discover it was a 1785 Mailed Bust facing right. This cellar hole produced a lot of coins and buttons for me and FoundationHunter.4332743328

You must be detecting some great spots. I think with enough time this piece could be attributed. Although it's missing a lot of detail, it also has a lot. Off hand I think there are only about 40 different varieties of the 1785 CT's. Several have the bust facing left so it's easy to eliminate those. I have a few of my own, pictured below. Did I mention I also have a couple of 1778 Machin's? :)

Yes u did mention that on my post earlier. So far so good with finding decent spots, but you get good spots and some bad.

Boy do I know you get some good spots and some bad. In the last 2 weeks I detected 4 properties with homes built in 1765, 1786, 1778 and 1790. Not one old coin. All the properties have had so much site work done there was nothing original left. One actually was 90% covered with 3 feet of fill. One was across the road from a house where I found an 1803 draped bust large cent, another from 1838, a New Jersey copper and a nice silver belt buckle from the late 1800's. I figured it would have been great. Found out they had raised the road level in front and it primarily affected the place I was detecting. You just never know, but you got to be out there swinging the coil to find out.
