The Fall colors exploded as the sun came up over the horizon. The feel of the old park became almost surreal as I walk a short distance from my car to enjoy a little metal detecting for the first time in quite awhile. I was very excited to get out, and enjoy this beautiful Autumn day.

This time of year in Colorado the trees are truly a spectacular site to see.

Unbelievably I had only been swinging for about 5 minutes with my E-Trac When I received a very broken, but repeatable hit. A check of the Quick Mask let me know something good was buried beneath my feet. Like so many times in the past I dropped to my knees, and stuck the sharp point of the Lesche digger into the aged park soil. As I began to pry on the handle the pain in my hands reminded me of why I have not been detecting in such a long time. With a little work I leveraged a large plug up, and onto it's back. It lay in stark contrast to the still green grass of the park. My TRX Probe let me know that I hand a few inches of dirt left to excavate. Soon a Silver disk broke from the bottom of the hole, and the sun kissed it's surface once again. I picked up the Silver coin, and could just make out the word "One Dime". I flipped it over, and what I saw threw me for a surprise.

The 1884 Seated Liberty Dime was worn very thin, and worn smooth at the edges.

The E-Trac appears to stand guard over the the small doorway to the past that I opened to find the old Dime.

I hunted a few more hours, and found a small amount of clad, and a nice little 1944d Wheat Penny. Very satisfied with my hunt I packed my gear back into the car, and leaned back against the hood. I removed the Dime from the keeper pouch, and held it up to the bright sun, and my thoughts drifted as they usually do to the distant past. Life has always been full of challenges. These folks of yesterday faced many tough times times, as we still do today. I felt the warmth of the sun on my back as I continued to stare at the old coin. Yes, life happens, but... Life is good.

Keep Swing'in
Jack

Jack,

Great to see you getting out.:thumbsup02: Hopefully in in the future that pain will go away.:stretcher: What a fantastic find on your 1st outing in such a long time. Watched the video and it looks to me like you "owned" the park, didn't see another soul. Ahh the peacefulness of detecting.

:congrats:on your seated.

This wonderful post of yours really put a smile on my face, Jack. I know you have had some health problems lately but you still have a great attitude and are finding the positives in life. It's hard to beat finding a seated dime on such a beautiful fall day in such breathtaking surroundings.

I'm so glad that you were able to get out for a hunt and that you were rewarded with a terrific find. :thumbsup02:

Doesn't matter that it's very worn, it's a seated dime. I'll take one any day in any condition. Nice find. Way to go!

The shinning sun sure can be a blessing, and the shine of an old dime seems to provide it's own kind of blessings.

From what Pokie was saying it sounds like you done the bypass thing. Got one of them T-shirts myself. YUP sounds like it was a really good day getting back out in the sun. Take it easy and enjoy the hunt.

Thank you all so much for all the nice thoughts, and positive words. First off, I have not had a bypass, or heart problems of any kind. I am very healthy for the most part. I just have a problem with my hands that keep me from digging, or using them to much for anything. I am staying very positive, and will continue to dig a plug, or two in the near future. Once again thank you folks for your support. It was truly a delight to get out, and hunt. I will be venturing out again soon. I am thinking about taking the neighbor kid with me next time to dig holes. I feel very fortunate to have found such a neat little Silver coin on this trip. I am really going to try, and be more active on the forum again.

Sincerely,
Jack..........aka CyberSage

Thanks Jeff, I don't get to see to many Seated coins in Colorado. I have two Quarters, and two Dimes now though. Makes you want to really dig everything in the trashy areas, but in my limited experience that's where they want to hide.

It's not good when detectorists aren't detecting. :shame: Glad to see you got out and got some dirt under your nails!!:thumbsup02:
Oh and let's not forget about that beautiful little 1884 Seated dime you brought back from it's long dirt nap!! :yahoo:
Congrats!
I think I have 4 or 5 seated dimes and one seated half, but no quarters. You've found 2? :envious:
Great post Jack! Now it's time to go watch the video.

Thanks Tim!

Ya I found Seated Quarters in March of 2012, and May of 2013. Both in very trashy noisy areas. May be the Channel 6 setting on the E-Trac could be a contributing factor. That's where my detectors like to noise cancel at with a lot of EMI.
