Hey diggers,

Here is a interesting thing from 1913 I stumbled upon today while researching the history of New Baden, IL:

Mr. Rensing operates two saloons in the city, one near the depot and the other up town. For the past eight years he has been engaged in the saloon business in the city and is assisted by this brother, Henry A. Rensing. It is only recently that he operated a saloon near the depot. Formerly he was located up town and has always done a big business. His patronage consists of the elite of the city; both saloons are congregating places for the younger element of the city. Mr. Rensing is also agent for the Star Brewery and has charge of the supplying of 6 saloons; he handles a complete line of all prominent brands of whiskies and bottled beer, and carries an excellent line of cigars. Mr. Rensing was born in the County near New Baden in 1878 and has been a resident of New Baden for eight years. He was married in 1906 to Miss Johanna Reinhardt. The couple have two girls and one boy. Mr. Rensing is one of the most promising young business men in the city and has a host of friends.

After reading this I remembered a bar token I found last year in another town about 40 miles from New Baden!

A great job of linking the two together too! :thumbsup02:
Tokens are one of my favorite things to find. That's a pretty cool one too. I've never found a square one before.

Nice token and even nicer that you found this information. For some reason we don't get many tokens out this way which is a shame as I love to see them posted.

Old tokens are so interesting to me, and they can provide great information about our local history. You did a great job researching that one, Dave! It is always such a good feeling to discover the history of a mysterious item.
