I was using my detector in my garden last year and dug up this copper makeup compact. It says Richard Hudnut New York on the side. Several copper relics have been found in my yard between my brother and I.

That's neat. Any idea of the age on it?

I'd guess 1920s by the design. Nice relic.

Nice garden find and I'll bet you did not have to travel far to find it..... Do you live in an older home?

My house was built in the 1920s. The area where I have my garden looks to have been a trash dump back in the 20s and 30s. I have a small pit dug and have been finding 1920s-1940s era bottles. Lots of junk iron, nails, broken dishes, etc have been found also. I have found a 1913-D penny back there and a Cub Scout Medal also.

I got a similar compact but mine has no company name on it. Shape is identical tho. Mine was found near an 1800's home but seeing as the road still shows it exists on Google maps, that it's most likely the 20'same era. Obvi your dating of the garden as trash dump gives u already enough info to date it.

Some poor lady is walking around without a mirror to check herself. Some of those compacts are quite ornate. Nice find and good luck on your next outing!

Thanks, hope to get back out soon before it gets to cold.
