I hunted an old home. Probably built around 1890-1895. There were a lot of old roofing nails close to the house and I did not have my 4X6 Shooter with me. I will have to go back and hunt in the high traffic area around perimeter of the back porch. From the brick work it looks like the back porch is original and not a later addition.
I was surprised that a home this old did not produce more. There was a lot of iron and an area which I believe was where the old trash barrel use to be. Until the mid 1960s , folks around here burned their trash.
I did find some clad near the driveway and front sidewalk. The items here were found in the back yard. As you can see, one button is toast and I have no idea how old. The second button was only two inch deep under some pine trees. I guess maybe the pine resine helped to prevent the button from being degraded even more.
The face of the button is pushed in a bit. The face has thirteen stars and the word EXCELCSIOR embossed around the rim.
I am not knowledgable about buttons. Can someone identify this button?
