Boy was the wind blowing yesterday, gusts had to be in the 40's. Had to keep an eye to the sky for falling branches or a tree. Sure glad I brought my balaclava with me to keep the old mug warm.

Went back to the site where I pulled the flintlock hammer 2 weeks ago. Was pretty slim picking but snagged a 19-S Merc, 24 Wheatie as well as a flat button.

After a few hrs I moved onto some news sites but nothing came up, so I headed back closer to home to another new site. Was pretty trashy but was able to pull out this sportsman button as well as the spoon.

Roger

You certainly are a brave soul. Nice digs, your merc saw a lot of action in its day. I've yet to dig a sportsman button, :congrats:on yours and all your keepers.

Since you do more wooded/cellar holes, do you make larger holes? I'm always used to parks and yards so I tend to dig smaller holes to find the targets. Just cuz I noticed your spoon in pieces. The silverplated one I found I didn't realize what I was digging (plus it was a little dark to see in the hole at the time I was there) so I bent it a bit kinda prying it out seeing as I knew at some point it wasn't a coin. And...nice finds. I think the '19 one I found this summer is also an S.

Did the dew in not the best of conditions. Nice finds for a die hard hunt!

I use a camp shovel & I'd say the circumference of the holes I dig are probably about 6" in circumference. This way I dig deep & don't hit my target. I refill my holes as well.

Thanks Dave! Yea it was pretty hairy with all the wind and the gusts were crazy strong. Had to turn up the volume in my headphones and the PP was hard to hear as well.

I thought about putting headphones on Sunday....with the leaves and wind....but NEVER!
Seriously, the only time I wear headphones is when I hunt with others. I'd almost
rather not hunt. You did well Roger, your pics are always good too!

Detecting out in the woods when its very windy can be very dangerous especially alone Roger . I've almost been hit with pretty big branches on more then a few occasions , be careful out there .

Very true Dan. It's always in the back of my mind to keep an eye out in all types of weather.
