On a beautiful fall afternoon MangoAve Jim and I hit a park in a nearby town that Jim had been to recently. I was fortunate enough to find a 1925 Merc about 8" deep in center field of the baseball field, a 1951 Rosie on the hill next to the 1st base line and my 1st Barber quarter, a well-worn 1913-d on that same hill. Both were also 7 or 8" deep. The surprise was when I got a nice sounding deep signal. I dug down to find a nice rusty hunk of junk at about the same depth as the 3 silver coins. But down in the hole I saw something else: a solitary diamond! At least I think it is. Just the fact that it was that deep leads me to believe it might be the real thing. I looked for the ring but there was none. The stone's got some fire to it and scratches glass so... I'll find out tomorrow. I couldn't get a good photo of the stone. Also found 3 bucks in clad and 7 wheaties, the oldest was 1924. And had a great day detecting with Jim.441134411444115

Congrats on your 1'st Barber q Mike, hope that turns out to be a diamond. That is a great park. Amazing that it didn't get detected to death years ago. Hope Jim got some silver too.

I get finder's fee! 15%... Congrats on the barber and possibly a diamond.

Bri, I found a park like that this summer, but I think I dug out all the treasures there. As far as this park. I got HOSED!! :crying02: Only clad. No silver for me. But it was a nice day to be out. I just didnt put the coil where it needed to be. That or the machine drifted being in a hot car most of the summer (even tho working with electronics I know the components can operate up to 70C and be stored anywhere between -65C and 150C). Ill blame it on the machine. ;)

Congrats on your first Barber Quarter! It's always a thrill to find one as they don't turn up too often. Awesome! :clapping:

Keep us posted on the diamond! :crossfingers:

Nice Barber Quarter. Although I have a few Barber Dimes , I only have one of the quarters.

I have heard of a diamond in the rough , I did not believe that is what was meant by one in the dirt. Good snag! :congrats:

Congratulations on the finds, especially on the quarter. It's strange that a ball player can make a diving catch from 10 feet, but can't hold onto a coin. BTW keep the CZ till Valentines day and get out cheap.

You still won! The Barber Q is a great find! Like the others have said, they don't show up too often.
Congrats!
Too bad about the CZ. I'm just surprised you spotted it in the dirt! :shocked01: Good eyes! :thumbsup01:
