Headed back to the cellar where I got 4 coppers and the 1694 coin. Didn't find much but did find a really old iron skeleton key, a piece of a pewter spoon, a buckle (could anyone id the age), fired musket ball, thing of lead and a bunch of nails and shot gun shells. I think this hole is hunted out. The most interesting thing that happened was I was detecting around the cellar and noticed orange up in a tree. I looked up and saw a hunter in a tree stand (or so I thought). I left and headed back to my car and called my family to ask what I should do. Hunting is illegal in Massachusetts on sundays and the hunter was extremely close to a public school as well. I head back up there with my uncle and we approach the hunter. We are relieved right away. The "hunter" is actually a gigantic kite caught in a tree with an orange color. Boy, was I relieved! 444364443444432444354443344431

That skeleton key sure did get rusted out....and I think that you did the right thing about the "hunter". What did your uncle say when it was discovered that it was a kite?

Lol on the kite. Hunting stands aren't usually more than 25ft high.

You know, my wife wants me to take a picture of every balloon I see in the woods and make a webpage to help with public awareness. I'm always railing about those balloons. I have one in a tree right now in MY YARD!!
I laughed about the hunter in the tree. I think your buckle is on the old side. Nicely done!

The buckle is super small and I have some of the hunt on youtube. I'll send you all the link later

Oh and yes there's a balloon in the woods too but not nearly as big as the kite

No hunting on Sunday? Our local autumn economy would collapse!
Thinking there was a hunter in a tree anywhere near you would be very creepy. Nice catch by looking up though.

Looks like a good hunt to me.

I am surprised about the no hunt on Sunday law. In my younger days I was an avid hunter. I have neb=ver heard of the no hunt law before.

How about fishing on Sunday ... is that allowed?

Nice digs!

every hunt we see a mylar balloon.

That isn't an exaggeration by any means. Do the math. It is insane how many are out there just based on what we see out in the woods.
