Since they kicked me out of the Relics section I guess I'll go back to posting in Coinshooting. :blackeye: ;)

Today I met up with Digger Don and Digger Al at their infamous "Five Cent Park". It certainly lived up to its name! We met there at 7:30 a.m. and started swinging. It was a chilly 29 degrees when we started detecting, but the wind wasn't blowing so it wasn't too bad.

We hunted there all day and quit when it started getting dark. We all got some nice finds. I ended up with 1 Indian Head, 13 Wheat Cents, 5 V Nickels, 1 Buffalo Nickel, 1 Barber Dime, 3 Mercs, 6 Rosies and a Barber Quarter.

Here are all of my coins for the day:
60765

And the keepers:
60766

One lone Indian Head for me, dated 1880:
60767

V Nickels dated 1884, 1893, 1898, 1909 and 1912:
60768

I got this 1893 Barber Dime towards the end of the day:
6076960770

Three Mercs dated 1927, 1941 and 1943-D:
60771

This 1895 Barber Quarter was a screaming signal. Too bad about the stain on the back, but I don't want to clean it very aggressively. Only my second Barber Quarter of the year, and this one is the nicer of the two:
6077260773

Some of the relics I found today:
6077460775

I can't wait to smoke my free 5 cent cigar!
6077660777

Antique bracelet with the initials "JLB"
60778

This is my favorite non-coin item that I found today, a swallow brooch or pin. I wonder how old it is? It appears to be made out of brass.

I want to thank Don and Alec for sharing their wonderful site with me! I owe them a big steak dinner!

Thanks for looking and happy hunting! :beerbuddy:

It definitely was a good day. It still amazes me how you find all that Silver. Wow.
especially when all the locals tell us how hunted out the park is. :lolsign:

That quarter cleaned up really nice. That really was a great find.:envious:

We definitely need to go back there again in the future.

CONGRATS on the 31 keeper coins.

Congrats Tony, you are amazing as always! Those are some wonderful coins. That quarter must have been an early drop, I can see the LIBERTY quite easily. Also check the back of that 1912 V nickel for a mint mark (lower left, below the dot). I have to agree that the swallow pin is your best non-coin find, followed by the cigar token (have a cigar, your gonna go far..by the way, which one is pink?) LOL. Best wishes and happy holidays Tony.

Welcome home Tony, you were missed. Getting 5 V's is truly amazing, add in your 11 silvers, IH, wheat's, some neat relics....:notworthy:. That 1895 quarter is a great looking coin. Do you think that it sat on a piece of iron to cause the stain?
Hope the weather can hold out for you, at least get in a couple more hunts this year.

I think I've found five V nickels in five years. That is un-freakin-believable! Plus all that other stuff, this is one of the best hunts I've seen on the forum...although they don't let me out of the relic section much
Wonderful Tony....they'll have to change the name of the park to "Two Cent" park!

Tony, I been thinking about your quarter with the rust adhesion on the back. What if you soaked it in WD-40 for a couple days? It might break it loose. Dave.

You are awesome Tony. That haul beats my whole year silver count not to mention the V nickels I've yet to dig one of those. :notworthy:

"Tony, I been thinking about your quarter with the rust adhesion on the back. What if you soaked it in WD-40 for a couple days? It might break it loose. Dave."

Kroil is the best rust dissolver I've ever seen, rust just melts away... Might give it a try.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I will try both options on a junk silver coin to see if it affects the silver. If not, I will try it on the Barber Quarter to see if it gets rid of the rust stain.

Great finds as always Tony! Also like the little button with the locomotive on it, if that's what it is.

That's exactly what it is, John. I liked it too.

The object below the locomotive button has me perplexed. I think it is a shotgun shell head stamp, but it seems to be very thick brass material, and it says "No. 14" on it which would be for a 14 gauge shotgun.

Didn't someone on here find a couple of those buttons not so long ago?
