Lodge Scent

Mrs. Lodge Scent surprised the heck out of me on Christmas with a new Deus! Around Thanksgiving she stated that we wouldn’t buy each other any gifts for Christmas this year. She set me up pretty good! Anyway, I had a few hours this morning to go out and play with the new toy. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours reading the manual and learning its features in my back yard. I thought there would be a steep learning curve but the Deus setup proved to be very easy and intuitive. So armed with my 2 hours of backyard experience and a few Deus tips from CTTodd (thanks Todd!), I headed to a nearby cellar hole site that has been pounded to death by me and every other detectorist in the area. I have squeezed a lot of goodies from that site over the years but I think I only pulled 1 non-ferrous target over the last 4 trips to that site.

I spent the first hour digging spurious signals just to get a feel for the machine, then decided to not waste time and just trust the audio. The Deus did a good job sounding off on several buttons that were hiding in the iron trash. I even got good audio signals on some very small button fragments. The biggest surprise was a large tombac that I pulled from right in the middle of the trail as it enters the site. I know I have hit that spot countless times with 4 or 5 different coils. So has every other detectorist that ever visited that site. It wasn’t very deep (about 4 inches) but there was a small nail nearby.

I was happy to pull a few buttons and a thimble. I suspect with a bit more practice with the Deus, I will be able to sniff some out some deep coppers or small silver in the iron patches from that site. I am liking this machine :thumbsup01:
